When Was West Ham United FC Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

West Ham United FC were founded in 1895, although their name at the time was Thames Ironworks FC.

The team disbanded in June 1900, but reformed less than a month later as West Ham United FC. Although West Ham tends to be known as 'the Hammers' by it's fans, there are still those that also call it 'the Irons' in reference to it's former name.

The club's kit is still linked to it's historical roots. The shirts keep the house colours of Thames Ironworks, which were claret and sky blue.
The crest also features two crossed-over shipbuilding hammers, as another mark of recognition to the formation of the club. The castle on the crest is Boleyn Castle, or Green Street House which is a local building.

West Ham gained promotion back to the Premiership at the end of 2004/05 and finished in a respectable 9th place in the table for the 2005/06 season.
