What Defines A Pathological Liar?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A pathological liar is a person who frequently exaggerates his or her narratives in order to make an impression on people. It is possible that pathological lying is not the same as ordinary lying in the sense that a pathological liar often believes in his own, partly false statements. This phenomenon is called as confabulation.

Others say that it is quite possible that pathological liars are completely aware of what they are doing.

Pathological lying cannot really be diagnosed as a clinical disorder; however it is possible that it may stem from one.

In legal scenarios, a defendant must be able to prove if he/she knows that he/she is stating lies. Such kind of evidence is significant in cases involving legal accountability and libel.
