How Do You Wire Up Speakers?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

You can wire up speakers in a number of ways. It depends on the number of speakers you have, as also the kind of speakers. It is important the speakers being wired up together are of the same type. This would ensure that there are minimal problems with connectivity as well as compatibility when wiring the different speakers together. Basically, the most common ways of wiring up speakers together are three. One way is to wire them in parallel, another is to wire them in series, and the third way is to wire them in a parallel-series connection.

When wiring speakers in parallel, make sure that positive terminal of one speaker is connected to the positive terminal of another speaker, and then connected to the amp. The negative terminal of one speaker is then similarly connected to the negative terminal of another speaker. In a series connection, the positive terminal of one speaker 1 is connected to the positive terminal of the amplifier. Similarly, connect the negative terminal of speaker 2 to the negative terminal of the amplifier. Now, also connect the negative terminal of speaker 1 to the positive terminal of Speaker 2. This completes the series circuit. When connecting the speakers in parallel series connection, the good thing is that the total impedance is not exponential, but remains equal to the impedance of a single speaker.  Also, you can use this type of connection when you are connecting more than two speakers together that are of the same kind.
