Dogs can have allergic reaction to yellow jackets, other bees and insects.  The most serious reaction is anaphylactic shot--they have difficulty breathing, may collapse, vomit, have diarrhea, and become very lethargic.  If this is occurring get your dog to a veterinary clinic immediately as this can be fatal!
More commonly dogs have facial swelling of the muzzle, nose, lips, and around the eyes.  A dog with this reaction should still be examined by a veterinarian and give injections of a steroid and Benadryl.  These medications stop the bodies immune system from overreacting.
Oral Benadryl will then be given for 1-2 days.  You can start oral Benadryl at home; the dose is 1 milligram per pound of body weight.  Benadryl comes in 25 milligram capsules or a children's liquid (for use in small dogs).  This should be given 3 times a day.  Do NOT use the Benadryl Cold and Sinus variety--the extra stuff is toxic to dogs.
      Good Luck!
