Why Is It Dangerous To Take In An Excess Of Vitamin A But Not An Excess Of Vitamin C?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are two classes of vitamins; those that dissolved in water and those that are fat soluble. Generally it is safe to take in water soluble vitamins in any quantity as they are metabolised and excreted in the urine.

However, taking in very large amounts of any substance can be harmful and it is now known if taking in huge quantities of vitamin C could harm the liver or the kidneys.

The water soluble vitamins include Vitamin C and the B group of vitamins. Although it is not advisable to take in mega quantities of these vitamins, they need to be taken every day for optimum health as they are lost from the body in the urine. The best source of vitamins is the diet rather than supplements.

It is much more dangerous to take large quantities of fat soluble vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin E because they are stored in the fatty tissue of the body and they can have toxic effects on the body if they accumulate to high levels.
