Thanksgiving day is the day to say thanks to God who has given us so many blessings. It was started from the year 1789 by the ratification of a new constitution.

I'm afraid I can't give much in the way of details, but Thursdays were a day of worship in addition to Sundays. As the celebration became more about bounty than religion, Thursday became the day Thanksgiving was to be celebrated.
Washington issued the first proclamation for a day of thanks, ands in 1863, Lincoln issued the first presidential proclamation that the last Thursday in November was to be a legal, national holiday. Since then every president has issued a yearly proclamation declaring the last Thursday in November as Thanksgiving. There has been one exception. FDR moved the holiday to the third Thursday for three years in an effort to stimulate the Christmas economy.
