    The word Columbia is a variant of the word Columba, which is of Latin origin. Columbia is an uncommon female first name, but is a well known surname. There are quite a few places which have the name Columbia, like British Columbia.

    British Columbia is the sixth district to unite with the Canadian Confederation and people residing in this region are known as British Columbians or BCers. The current capital of British Columbia is Victoria.

    BC shares its borders with the Pacific Ocean towards the west, with Alaska towards the northwest, with Yukon towards the north, with districts of Alberta towards the east and with American states of Washington, Idaho and Montana towards the south.
