Different seeds have different needs to produce a plant. You need to know the name of the plant and what it's requirements are. Most seed packets have the instructions written on the back. If someone gave you the seeds then you need to get that information by knowing the name of the plant and looking it up in a horticulture book or maybe trying your luck on Google. Some seeds need to be planted deep while others can be sprinkled on top of the soil. Some seeds can be planted in the cold of winter but most require warm soil and frequent watering. Some plants need to be started indoors. Do your research.
