Fancy a mobile wedding or to confess your sins whilst on the run? Well you now can with help from the inflatable church. Yes, tis true. You can now hire an inflatable church, complete with pews, stained glass windows and vicar!
The first ever inflatable church went on display at the Christian Resources Exhibition in Surrey, southern England, in May 2003 and despite entering the Guinness Book of Records, has caused quite a stir with Christian groups.
The inflatable church was created by Michael Gill, Managing Director of InnovationsUK.com, who claims that the project has generated interest in 23 countries and believes it may be used for novelty weddings. Gill predicts that the 47 foot high church, which costs from £500 a day to rent, will help bring a positive message to troubled inner-city areas and appeal to young people and also inject some fun into ceremonies.
The church, which took five years to complete, was blessed by Father Mick Elfred who stepped inside to give a prayer.   Mr Gill is also considering expanding to other faiths following inquiries about inflatable mosques and synagogues. But his next project is an inflatable pub and nightclub which would hold up to 600 people.
Inside it has blow-up organ, altar, pulpit, pews, candles and a gold cross. The 47ft long by 25ft wide church has plastic 'stained glass' windows. Mr Gill, of Southampton, hopes to transport his portable church around Britain and marry people. A Church of England spokesman insisted that the inflatable could only be used for civil ceremonies, but this is debatable.
