Blackmore has Anglo-Saxon origins and translated from the Old English "Blaec" (black) and mor (moor) represents a dark marsh area where families would have made a settlement nearby.
There were two places called Blakmore in Anglo Saxon times; a parish near to St Albans and also another near Winchester.
Variants of the name include Blakemore, Blackmore, Blackamore and Blackmere.
