What Are Three Major Religions Practiced In India?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The three major religions practiced in India are Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism. Sikhism was actually an offshoot of Hinduism itself and the movement borrowed material, philosophy and ideologies from Muslim scholars and Sufis as well. Hinduism, or more accurately Vedantism is the native religion of India, which in turn was brought by invading Aryans to India. Islam followed suit later as several Muslim dynasties subsequently invaded and reigned India for a long period of time. Islam was first introduced to India by the Arab traders who came on sea trade routes to India, later on it became the religion in power with the advent of foreign Muslim invasions who came from Persia and Arabia. Later on several people converted to Islam from India. However, these three religions have shaped Indian history and still continue to do so.
