Why Does A5.7 Liter Boat Motor Stall When Put In Water?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

If it only stalls when you try to put it into gear I would bet on the shift interrupt switch.  This means the shift cable or throttle cable is out of adjustment.  The switch kills the engine for just a short time to help the lower unit engage the gears without damage.  Try putting it in gear and then back to neutral once it starts to "stall".  If the motor starts running correctly that is the problem
