Am Looking For Gowda Caste In Karnataka?

There does not exist any Gowda Caste in Karnataka. This is the biggest misnomer used in Karnataka. Gowda means head of a village/locality, mostly among the rural gentry. This is a designation and he will be one of the important memebers who would preside over in matters of arbitration. Since the tilling and agricultural community in known as the vokkaligas and since most of the land owners are vokkaligas, this title of Gowda is more often found among people of this community. But there are other communities which also use gowdas as their surname and they are the Kurubas and the Lingayats.
