If you are using server 2003 then the easiest way would by with a ethernet cable, you could use a cross over lead save using a hub, the client machine could then join the server domain as a slave computer. If either of these operating systems are on a Laptop then you need to make sure its on power as the ethernet port is often switched off if running off laptop battery
