How Do I Paint Over Poly-ed Pine Cabinets?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

You need to sand them down to a dull finish, using sandpaper or an electric palm sander with an 80 to 100 grit sandpaper. Clean them with a cloth and alcohol to remove any dust particles, then prime them with a primer made especially for (slick) surfaces. (Zinsser) makes an excellent one, but be sure you pick the proper one. They make different types.
Let the primer cure for 24 hours, then paint them with an enamel or acrylic based paint.
I prefer the semi-gloss. It leaves a nice finish on the cabinets and is easy to clean.
