Coeliac disease is basically a gluten intolerance. This rules out anything with breads of pastries. However there are lots of interesting and tasty alternatives. You'll also find that you're table will look more attractive than the usual 'brown' spread that is put on.

One of the most popular, attractive and tasty looking foods is sushi. You will have to check that the rice is gluten free – it can be contaminated in harvesting and packaging – but generally this is not a problem. There are quite a lot of Japanese caterers who could offer you a selection for a reasonable price. Exquisite finger food!!

King prawns are great. Serve them cold in a large ring with a variety of dipping sauces. I love sweet chili. Remember if you're buying any dipping sauces to check that they are gluten free. Often glutenous products can be added as thickeners.

Mini kebabs of meat and peppers are great. You can marinade the meat in advance or just brush them with a little oil and grill or charcoal. You can serve these hot or cold.

A selection of salads with a nice vinaigrette is lovely too!
