There is no specific term as modern orchestra. I believe you are referring to the Boston Modern Orchestra project. This project is also known by the abbreviated term BMOP. This project was started by artistic director Gil Rose in the year 1996. It began as a professional orchestra in Boston, Massachusetts in America. This project aims at performing and recording orchestral music of the bygone century as well as live performances by living composers.
It organises around 4-6 concerts annually not only in Boston but also in Tanglewood and New York. It has won several awards including eight ASCAP awards for adventurous programming.
