What Kind Of Poem Is The Rape Of The Lock?
Answers
The Rape of the Lock may be classified as a mock-heroic or mock-epic poem which was written by Alexander Pope. He referred to it as "heroi-comical". This poem was initially published in the year 1712 where it came out in two cantos. Later, in the year 1714, it was reissued in an extended 5-canto version.
This interesting poem satirizes an inconsequential tiff by relating it to the epic world involving the gods. The humour demonstrated in the poem stems from the storm involving vanity which has been being embedded within the very complex, formal verbal composition of an epic poem.
It speaks volumes of the vanities and the inherent idleness present in 18th-century high society. He penned this poem based on a real episode involving families of his acquaintance.
