Etymology is the study which helps to understand the origin of a particular word. The job of etymologist is characterized by developing the history of words by thorough analysis of old documents and by comparing with other languages. Their focus generally involves into finding out the source of the word, how they entered in a language and how they have changed their meaning or form, if any.

The word 'etymology' itself comes from Greek word, where etymos implies true and logos implies word. In combination, the word 'etymology' implies 'original or true meaning of words'. Hence, this is the etymology of 'etymology'.

According to etymological description, the term 'e-mail' came from 'Electronic Mail' and the term was used for the first time in 1982 (source available from etymonline dot com).
