My Dog Is Losing His Hair All Over. Is It Possible It Can Be Some Thing More Than Mange?

I have a rottweiler and he is losing his hair and biting himself so much till he bleeds, I have tried almost everything to make him comfortable and nothing seems to help. He has this problem like every summer. Can you please help?

I have experiencs with mange cases one type is in the blood stream and isn't treatable and usually results in death the other type is a topical paricite and can be treated with a special soap proscribed by a vet if caught early enough they have a chance of a very happy life. I would visit a vet and have the sweetie checked. I would hate to say it's just allergies and then turn out to be something life thretening. Best of wishes.

The seasonality of your dog's clinical signs suggests allergies.  The types of allergies in dogs are flea, food, and atopy (environmental).  Allergies need to be treated several angles--frequent bathing, anti-histamines, omega-3 fatty acids, treating secondary infections (yeast, bacteria, or mites), immune modulating medications, steroids, and/or allergy injections.  The type of treatment depends upon the severity of signs.  Ringworm is also a possibility.  Mites, other ectoparasites, and several endocrine (hormonal messenger system) diseases are also possible.  You need to work with your veterinarian to diagnose the cause of hairloss and itching, they will help you form a treatment plan and help your dog feel better.  Skin problems are frustrating and are often about control not cure.

I am having some what of the same problem, same breed to. He is losing hair but is not chewing and bleeding. We took him to the vet and she said it was allergies gave him a shot and some meds and sent us on our way. At first he was looking better but now it is worse again. And the weird thing is it looks like he has been buzzed you don't really see too much skin and he loses it evenly. Like his right and left ear lost hair his right and left thigh and now he has what looks like racing stripes on each of his sides and also around his neck now. We are thinking maybe it is the metal in his collar that is doing it. We are going back to the vet.
