A name is a person's identity. Just imagine yourself without names, imagine the world without names! It is very difficult to imagine our world without names. History does not tell us when humans started using names, but it must have been in the distant past.
As of the 1990 American Census the most common surname was "Smith" whereas the most common name was "James" among men and "Mary" among females.
As of recent times the trends have changed considerably. The most common name for boys is now "Jacob" while it is "Emily" for girls.
On the contrary the least common names are "Carson" for men and "Katie" for girls.
In the past couple of years, of course, as far as the "popularity" of a name goes, ones that have been used most are bearers of bad news, such is Katrina, the name of a hurricane.
