Yes dogs do make really good christmas presnts im planing on geting a goldn retriver for christmas so yes
I'd say it depends, if you are buying a pup as a surprise for someone for xmas then they may not be prepared ie have the bed, crate, food etc and knowledge in order to properly care for the dog. As long as the dog is truly wanted and everything is in place for its arrival, it would be a lovely present.
