Where Is Cataline In The USA?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cataline is located in the Texas, USA. It is located at the mouth of Gageby Creek. Gageby Creek is located on the River Washita. It is located in the county of Hemphill in the southeastern part of the state of Texas. The city of Cataline was established in the year 1890. It is located on the Houston and Great Northern Railroad survey. It is located on Alexander Ranch. It was supposedly named after the famous Roman politician of the ancient times, Catiline. A woman named Lucy Alexander is said to be behind the naming of the city. She had read about Catiline and misspelt his name.

Another interesting theory behind the christening of the town as Cataline was provided by one historian. He stated that there was an influential land promoter from the state of Kansas. The promoter, whose name was Cataline, allegedly named the city and community of Cataline after himself. The city had a post office and a combined school and church building. Despite this, the town failed, when the town planners changed the plans for the railroad. Cataline was once considered too remote to develop into a prosperous community. The post office was in operation until the year 1912. In the year 1990, the cemetery was the only place that still existed in the community of Cataline.
