Maui is the name of the second largest island in Hawaii. It is a name named after the demigod Maui. It is to this demigod that the natives attributed the creation of the islands when he raised them from the sea. The name was however as per native tradition and legend to have been given by a Polynesian explore. The Explorers son was named Maui after the demigod.

The island of Maui today has a population of nearly a hundred and forty thousand and it covers an area of about one thousand eight hundred and eighty three square kilometres. The economy of the island predominantly depends on pineapples, sugarcanes and the inflow of tourists. Maui has its fair share of problems these days which include high population, very high property prices, congestion, water shortage etc.
