The SLR camera consists of various parts that formulate the SLR system. These are:
    a) Mirror
    b) Lens
    c) Shutter
    d) Eye-piece
    e) Pentaprism
    f) Condensing lens
    g) Sensor also called film
    h) Focusing screen

The function is simple. The light passes through the lens and the mirror reflects it. The reflected beam of light falls on the focusing screen by means of the lens. Internal reflections are faced by the roof pentaprism. As a result of this image is formed at the eye piece. When the focal plane shutter opens it has that image which is focused on it by the mirror. The position of image is dependent on the position of the arrow. This image is expected on the sensor/film. The image is the same as projected on the focusing screen.

This feature of image projection on the focusing screen is not the same as an ordinary camera. For SLR the photographer will see the exact image as it was formed on the sensor. Other important features of SLR are the TTL (through the lens) metering and the flash control mechanism.
