    The National Portrait Gallery is situated in St Martin's Place, WC2H 0HE.London, England. It was opened in 1856 to the public and houses portraits, paintings, photographs, drawings, caricatures and also sculptures of famous and historically important British people. The selection is not always made on the artistic merit of the portrait, but the significance of the sitter to British affairs. There are also some self portraits by British painters of note such as Sir Joshua Reynolds and William Hogarth and others, not all are of exceptional quality.

    Portraits of persons still living were allowed from 1969. William Radcliff, the hero of the Harry Potter series is the youngest non-royal to have his portrait unveiled in the gallery. The National Portrait Gallery boasts of a collection of 250,000 archived images.
