Why Are Basketball Trophies Awarded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The most obvious reason for awarding trophies is to reward outstanding performance in the game. This not only rewards past behaviour, but sets a standard for the person that has received it and also to other players. All people respond to rewards in a positive manner. Those that win an award feel appreciated, whilst those that have not received it have something to aim for.

Awards can also be for attitude towards the sport rather than just ability. This approach can reward participants for their determination, reliability, and general outlook. It encourages players to play a fair yet competitive game and also improves team work. it is a good morale booster, and can be used to encourage players that feel unappreciated.

Awards can also be for multiple people, rather than just individuals. Again, this has an excellent influence upon the standard of teamwork, as it encourages a competitive spirit that requires the players to think about their status and performance as a whole, rather than individuals. Awards are used in a variety of ways, but the outcome is always meant to be positive for the team and for the game.
