I am looking for something that I might be able to buy from a pet store.

Call a vet, and talk to an assistant there, they are best qualified to tell you this. Do not feed the kitty human pain medicine, as it would most likely kill it. Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

Cats require careful dosing and should always be monitored by a veterinarian throughout any  pain treatment.  Cats are much more sensitive to pharmaceuticals than dogs are... So treating them for pain is a lot trickier, and really can't be done responsibly without consulting a veterinarian.  Acetaminophen is toxic to cats, and aspirin is very easy to overdose... Sometimes vets do use aspirin to help manage arthritis pain, but it has to be carefully prescribed and closely monitored... Taking into consideration the cat's full medical history.
One of the newest cat pain management medications is Adequane with a combination of steroids or glucosamine/chondroitin, sometimes in combination.  It is difficult to monitor pain in cats during treatment, so you need to keep a close eye on their behavior during treatment.  There is relief out here...with a quality pain relief management plan... Your cat will be feeling better in no time.
