The city of Rome must be especially mentioned with respect to the number of churches it houses; though there well may be other cities in the world where one may find more churches. If one takes in to consideration tradition and history Rome is up there among the most important centers of Christianity. The Vatican which is the residence of the Pope, the spiritual head of millions of Christians all over the world lies in Rome; the city is home to over 900 churches.
Among the famous ones mention should be made of the San Martino ai Monti church which is one of the oldest churches in Rome with the original structure built way back in the 3rd century AD. The important churches of Rome known as the Seven Churches of Rome (basilicas) are San Giovanni in Laterano, the San Pietro in Vaticano (St Peter's basilica, the second largest church in the world), San Paulo fuori le mura, Santa Maria Maggiore, San Lorenzo fuori le mura, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, Santuario della Madonna del Divino Amore.

Columbus Georgia (U.S) would rank very high. Many streets have 4 and 5. Mobile Alabama area (also U.S) would be another with a lot of churches. For such small cities, the number of churches in these two areas are great.
Mobile AL I seriously doubt would have more churches than New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston. The nations top 4 cities and frankly the only cities worth even living in if you are the United States. All other cities are just in the dust!!!!!!!!!!!!!
