Why Do Rabbits Have Powerful Hind Legs?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A rabbit's main defense is to run. It it wants to stay alive,
it HAS to outrun what wants to eat it.  Either to stay out of
reach long enough for the hunter to get tired and give up
or for the prey to reach protection.  If you've ever seen
two rabbits having a disagreement, you'll see that the back
legs are used there as well.  Or, if you've never picked
up one that isn't thrilled about the idea, it can each back or
over it's head with those rear legs and reach your hands.
Those toenails hurt and can cause damage.  Carried a
lot of bandages when I was showing rabbits.
