When Did They Build The Brighton Marina?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Brighton Marina project was conceptualised almost four decades ago. It was inaugurated by The Queen of England and has since grown by leaps and bounds to emerge as the largest yachting marina complex in Europe.

The Brighton Marina was built in the early 1960's. The idea of building a yacht harbour on the land reclaimed from the sea in the southeastern English city of Brighton was originally conceptualised by a local entrepreneur named Henry Cohen. The plan for the marina project also included the construction of various leisure facilities on the reclaimed land, including residential buildings for visitors to stay in while holidaying at the marina.

The project was approved by a group of banks and financial institutions and an Act of Parliament was eventually passed after two public inquiries. It was only after the Parliament Act was passed that construction of the marina project could begin.
