The capital of the state of Arizona is Phoenix.  Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona and is the sixth largest city in the United States. It is also the largest capital city in the United States. The 2006 estimates for the city places the population at 1,467,223, which would be sufficient for Phoenix to become the 5th largest city in the United States. The weather in Phoenix is very hot and arid. It is considered to be one of the hottest areas in the world with an average summer temperature of over one hundred degrees. Phoenix averages at least three hundred sunny days per year. Phoenix is the home to some major sporting teams such as the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team, the Phoenix Suns basketball team, the Phoenix Coyotes national hockey team, and the Arizona Cardinals football team. In addition, nine Major League Baseball teams conduct spring training in the area. These teams, plus three that train in Tucson, are collectively known as the Cactus League.
