A republic in W. Asia and S.E. Europe, with population of 45,360,000 comprising of 48% Turks, 12% Kurds 1% of Arabs, small number of Greek, Georgian, American and Bulgarian minorities. Chief city is Istanbul and capital city is Ankara. Turkey's land is 780,576 sq km.

Land is 32% arable, 37% pasture and 13% forest. Highest peaks are Buyak Agri or Arara (5,165 m), sup Han (4,175 m). Average temperatures in Istanbul from Jan to July are between to 6 and 23 degree centigrade and in Ankara -1 and 24 degree centigrade in Erzurum -9 and 19 degree centigrade and near Syrian border 18 and 30 degree centigrade.

Religion of turkey: 98% are Muslims, 15 are Christian (mainly Greek orthodox and Georgians), small Jewish minority. Rainfall: Lake Tzu basin 2.5 – 20 cm, Istanbul 61 cm, Erzurum 50 cm.

Live stock is sheep goats, cattle, donkeys, mules, horses, water buffalo and camels.
Agricultural products: Cotton, tobacco, cereals, olive and olive oil, silk, dry fruits, dairy products, rice, hemp, flax, sugar beet, grapes, figs, citrus fruits, nuts, almonds, mohair, skins and hides, fur, wool, gums, canary seed, linseed, sesame, vegetables and opium.

Mineral resources are coal, petroleum, uranium, copper, antimony, salt. Manufactures and industry is mining, fishing, textile, iron and steel, fertilizers, silk, sugar leather soap and oil refining.
