Did The Romans Build More Than One (Hadrian's) Wall To Divide England From Scotland?
2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating
The Romans built 2 walls, one was Hadrians wall which they began to build in AD 122 and lies in the far north of what is now called England (England did not exist until the Angles and Saxons - who came from Germany - came together to create England in the 10th century) and the Antonine Wall, which was first built in 142 AD and ran across what is now central Scotland, roughly from Old Kilpatrick to Bo'ness. The purpose of these Walls was to protect Roman areas from being attacked by Scottish (Caledonian) tribes from further north.
