Where Does Gibson Bay, Sydney Get Its Name From?

    Gibson bay is situated in the Gibson Desert, positioned in Western Australian desert which is made up of sand hills. This region is named after Alfred Gibson who died while trying to cross the desert during his expedition in the year 1874 he was accompanied by fellow explorer Ernest Giles, who narrowly managed to survive the expedition.

    The total area of the desert is 155,000 square kilometers in size; the only people living in this region are Indigenous Australians. The regions wildlife comprises of the red kangaroos and the emus.

    The annual rainfall in the Gibson Desert is anywhere between 200mm to 250mm. The climate of this region is usually hot; the temperature rises above 40 degrees Celsius in the summers, where as in the winter it drops to around 18 degrees Celsius.
