Input devices are used to enter data into the computer. These are keyboard, mouse, joystick, scanner, digital camera, track ball, mike, modem, input and output card, touch screen, light pen etc.

Most commonly used input devices are keyboard, mouse, joystick and scanner. Keyboard is like typewriter but it has some additional keys. Information typed from keyboard is translated by computer into recognizable patterns. Mouse is input pointing device and it is useful when we are working in graphical operating system, application software etc. Mouse pad is rubber pad that is used to provide a uniform surface for mouse to glide on. Joystick is a hand handle input device. It is usually used to play game to give quick response. Digital camera is used to give live pictures or movies to the computer.

Track ball is alternative of mouse and it is also pointing device. Mike is voice input device used to receive the data from other computer and transfer it into the computer in which it is placed. Touch screen is input device and is sensitive to pressure and motion. By touching monitor screen we can give command to the computer. Input and output device is also an input devices as well as an output device.
