Identity theft is something that occurs in the United States on a daily basis.  Identity theft occurs when someone's personal information is stolen and is used by the criminal to take on another person's identity. Identity theft includes the use of social security numbers, addresses, credit card and bank card numbers, driver's license information and any other personal information.

Preventing identity theft is simply a matter of being careful with your personal information. Do not give your personal information to anyone that you do not know or trust. Do not throw out papers with your personal information on them such as bills, receipts, or records. Destroy the document by shredding them before throwing them in the trash. Do not enter your personal information on the internet to someone you do not know or do not trust. If there is any doubt about
the internet services, you can check the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org.
