Can I See The Big Five At Kruger National Park?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Yes, you can. (For the avoidance of doubt, the Big Five are generally thought of as the Cape buffalo, the lion, the elephant, rhino and the leopard.) However, you will be very lucky to see all five in one day. It's best to devote three or four days to Kruger National Park in any case, there so much to see and you will regret having a rushed a visit there otherwise.

Kruger National Park is massive and your success in seeing all of the Big Five will depend on the time of year. The best time to go is in the drier months when there's less vegetation around to obscure the view. However, these months also tend to be the hottest months, and you'll be glad of air conditioning to escape the energy-sapping temperatures.

No matter when you go to Kruger there's an abundance of animals, the national park is home to over 140 species of mammals, 507 bird species, 114 reptiles, 33 amphibians and 49 types of freshwater fish.
