Does The Weather Really Affect Our Health?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Weather can definitely affect some conditions, but these are pre-existing conditions such as asthma, bronchitis or arthritis.
For example, if someone has arthritis then they may find that the condition is worse when the temperature drops and the air becomes very wet, due to rain.  Arthritis is often worse during autumn and winter as a result of this.
People with asthma often find that their condition is worse if the air temperature drops suddenly and wind speeds rise at the same time.  However, during winter itself they may find that they have fewer attacks.
People with heart conditions may also experience problems during cold weather (the death rates from these disorders are often higher in January and February and lowest in the summer).
Colds are often a problem during the winter but for most people who are relatively healthy, the weather does not greatly affect their health, particularly if we keep warm and wrap up well during the winter.
