The Oriental Republic of Uruguay or Uruguay is a country of Southeastern part of the South America. The total area of Uruguay is estimated almost 176,215 square kilometres. Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay. According to the census report of the year of 2002, the total population was estimated 3,382,000. The ninety percent of the population is consisted with European ancestry, mostly Spanish and Italian. The rest of population is consisted with mestizos (European and Indian ancestry), mulattos (European and Black) and blacks. A few Indians are also seen in the Uruguay.
Spanish is the official language of the country. Roman Catholicism, Protestantism and Judaism are the widely accepted religion of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. Uruguayan peso is the currency of Uruguay.
This is the only country in South America that lay entirely outside of the tropics. It is consisted with low plateaus and low hilly regions. Negro river is the main waterway of the country. The western border with Argentina is formed by the Uruguay River. There are limited minerals and energy resources are found in Uruguay. Four/fifth of the land area is covered with the pastures that supported the country in livestock. Wheat, corn, oats and barley are the main crops of the country. Tourism, fishing and the manufacturing are the other important economic activities of the country. The manufacture of textiles, chemicals and transport equipment are becoming important in aspect of economy of the country.
