The Spanish word for "equator" means Ecuador. The country lying in the northwest part of South America straddles the equator and therefore is aptly as Ecuador. The country once a part of Incine Empire was conquered by Spain in the year 1534. Ecuador achieved freedom from the Spanish in the year 1822, but became a part of Greater Colombia. The union lasted till 1830, after which Ecuador got a distinct identity as a separate nation. The capital of Ecuador is Quito.

The nation which is home to the population of 13,350,000 has most of the inhabitants living in the highlands. When Ecuador declared its freedom in the year 1830, two other nations came into existence, Venezuela and Colombia. Ecuador situated between Peru and Colombia forms the boundary of Pacific Ocean at the equator. The region is abundant in petroleum and known for its agricultural pastures. The country has altogether ten universities.  Spanish is the official language of Ecuador and Roman Catholic is the predominant religion although there is no recognized church.

What? We don't have only 10 universities in the whole country! We have actually a lot more... And beside not only colleges but schools from all over the world. (germany, canada, USA, Japan...) It's sad to read that people think we are an insignificant country... We're not.
