How Do I Format My Card But Still Save The Pictures That Were On The Card?

I went on vacation to mexico and took LOTS of pictures. Except when I came home and tried to download them to my computer, but it asked me to format the card. I do not want to format the card because then It will delete my photos. Is there a way I can format the card and still save my photos or can i still save my photos on my computer without having to format it? Do you guys have any recommendations to what i should do? PLEASE HELP!

If there was a software CD that came with your camera, this would be the time to load it. Possibly the software will be able to read the card where Windows can't. Another possibility - I can't believe I am saying this - is to find a friend with a Mac and see what the Mac thinks about it. Often they handle errors more gracefully than PCs do. If you can pull off the files then they can write them to a CD or email them to you. Last resort, call the manufacturer's tech support line and ask them for help, maybe if you send it in they can fix it.

You could try another computer or even going to a photo processor and have them put to cd there. In the future remember to format cards before using and save pics and delete once you can confirm that they are saved to computer or other backup. Remember that memory cards can go bad (heat, cold , uv, time...) so two 256 mb's may be better than one 512 mb.
