Microwave ovens speed up the molecules in the item inside it causing friction by molecules rubbing against each other which causes the item in the microwave to get hotter...the inside consists of a plug taking energy from an electrical output and that energy is then gone into the transformer inside the microwave which converts electrical energy into another kind of energy that energy is then used to power the heater that makes the molecules in the microwave go faster .

Did you know that if the metal pan /cookware is thick enough that you can cook in a microwave with it...hmmmm...did you also know that they discovered the effects of it by a little bit of a mistake actually melting a pen in one of the scientists pockets seeing the effects of it they worked on designing the first microwave cabinet to sheild the person when using it....you could try looking up a pbs episode that discussed the history/invention of the microwave..
