A ring worm (tinea) is a kind of skin infection in the shape of a reddish ring; it is a fungal infection that causes the skin to erupt in itchy dry blisters. It can spread to various parts of the body like the scalp, the groin and the back and feet.
Ringworm is a contagious condition and the infection generally spreads from person to person though it has also been known to spread from animals like cats and dogs. Doctors generally scrape the skin around the blister to examine it under a microscope to determine the nature of the infection as ringworm symptoms are similar to those of dermatitis and in some cases that of psoriasis and eczema.
Over the counter anti fungal ointments and lotions help in case of mild infections; tea tree oil is an effective remedy especially in the treatment of ringworm in the scalp which causes rapid hair loss. The treatment period is generally of 15 to 20 days depending on the severity of the infection.

Ringworm is a very common disease of the skin. The medical name for it is "tinea", and it is caused by a fungus infection. You usually see ringworm on the arms and legs. The most common from of it is one, or several, raised round sores on the skin. They seem to heal in the centre while the edges continue to grow outward. Sometimes the healed centre part becomes reinfected, and then a second "ring" develops and grows inside the original ring. In some cases of ringworm, the centre does not heal at all.
A ringworm sore starts as a small, slightly raised area with a reddish colour. Then it gets redder and there may be some blisters and a slight itching or burning sensation.
Another common type of ringworm is ringworm of the scalp. This is a very contagious form and children seem to catch it very easily.
It is very difficult to destroy the fungi that cause ringworm, so treatment of the patient usually consists of trying to prevent the infection from spreading, until it eventually ends.
Ringworm is a highly contagious disease, and it can be spread by animals as well as human beings. Objects that are handled by people with ringworm can infect other individuals.
The best way to treat it is to catch this disease in its first stages. Go to a doctor for treatment. He will see to it that it does not spread to other parts of the body and help you to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Ringworm is a fungal skin infection which appears as a small reddish ring on the skin. The scientific name of this disease is Tinea corporis. The parts of your body that are mostly covered, and are warm and moist are most susceptible to this disease. The incubation period of ringworm is 10-14 days.
The common symptoms of ringworm include a small ring that eventually clears from the center. Ringworm may also infect the scalp causing people to develop a temporary bald spot and the hair in the infected area may become brittle.
To prevent ringworm, wear airy clothes. Make sure your feet are completely dry before you put on socks and change your socks frequently. It is also important that you air your shoes quite often too. Also do not share clothing, towels or footwear in public places.
If you do have ringworm, it can easily be treated by an anti-fungal cream. Usually a terbinafine 1% cream is topically applied twice every day until the symptoms disappear. Sometime, medicine may also be given orally.
