The NBA started on August 3, 1949 when two basketball leagues back then combined together. The two basketball leagues were previously called the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the other one was National Basketball League (NBL).
Since its formation the National Basketball Association (NBA) has grown from a small time league to a global phenomenon making basketball into the fastest growing sport all over the world.
There are many captivating stories in the history of the NBA, the league started with eight teams and currently has 30 teams taking part in the league. Center George Mikan was the Superstar for the Minneapolis Lakers, today; Yao Ming from China of the Huston Rockets is its current star.
