I’m Visiting Las Vegas On My Own, And Get Tired Of Plunking Quarters In A Slot Machine And Boutique Shopping Pretty Quickly. What Else Is There To Do In And Around “Sin City”?

Quick, what are the two manmade things you can see from outer space? The Great Wall of China and The Strip of Las Vegas.
The improbable fantasy town in a remote corner of Southern Nevada surpassed Mecca as the most visited site on Earth with 36.8 million tourists in 2005. After an economic slump due to decreased gambling revenues in the 1970s-'80s, Vegas decided to remake itself as a family destination. This proved a mistake, so Sin City has gone back to selling its sexy image with the suggestive slogan "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."
Vegas is now home to 12 of the 20 biggest hotels in America, five-star restaurants, high-end shopping boutiques, and, of course, the fantasy architecture of The Strip. But what else can you do within a short rental-car drive?
Las Vegas has many fine museums, including the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum, the Las Vegas Art Museum, the Bellagio (casino) Fine Art Museum, the Las Vegas Museum of Natural History, the Nevada State Museum -- and even the Liberace Museum.
Tour operators cater to outdoor enthusiasts who want an authentic desert experience. Nearby Red Rock Conservation Area offers miles of hiking and mountain biking among fabulous geological formations. Valley of Fire State Park has excellent examples of American Indian rock art. The two-night hike up Mount Charleston (11,915 feet) includes dense forests and lush meadows not commonly associated with the desert.
The Colorado River (which 19th century satirists Mark Twain called, "too thick to drink, too thin to plow") is a short drive way. You can swim and boat on Lake Mead at the end of the Grand Canyon, and tour the site of the massive Hoover Dam.
