Liquid volumes can be measured in various ways using special apparatus or equipment.
The measuring (or graduated) cylinder .This is for measuring out approximate volumes of liquids. It is graduated in cubic centimeters or milliliters. It comes in various sizes ;5ml, 10ml, 50ml, 100ml, 250ml, 1000ml and 2000ml.
For all liquids, except mercury, the correct reading is taken at the bottom of the curved liquid surface. For mercury the correct reading is taken at the top.The burette. This is a glass vessel that delivers small volumes of liquid up to usually, 50 cm3. For greater accuracy, it is long and thin and graduated in milliliters. Readings are always taken at the level of the bottom of the meniscus.
A pipette is used to transfer a measured volume of liquid from one container to another. A Syringe. It is similar to pipette, but is used to inject a known volume, such as 5ml, of a particular liquid medication.Volumetric Flask. It holds a fixed volume of liquid when filled up to the mark on the neck. Each of the above pieces of measuring apparatus comes in different sizes.

Volume is basically a way of indicating that how much space is being occupied by any matter. Matter is anything which has weight and which occupies space. There are three different phases or states of matter which are solid, liquid and gas. Liquid is a phase of matter which has a definite volume but does not have any definite shape. They normally take the shape of the container in which they are normally contained. The normal standard for measuring the volume of a fluid is by using different units. Like cubic meter or liters.
Once cubic meter is the volume occupied by a cube whose length, width and height is of one meter. Cubic meter is used as a measurement of volume of a liquid in SI system of units, one cubic meter is equal to 1000 liters.
Litre is another unit of measuring the volume of a liquid however litre is based on the volume of water, according to a definition litre is the volume of one kilogram of water at a given pressure and temperature. So in this way volume of all the liquids is measured with reference to the standard of cubic meter or with reference to the volume of one kilogram of water.

Liquid volume is usually measured in cubic meter or in liters (i.e. 1/1000th of a cubic meter.) For simple shapes like cube, sphere etc. the volume is easily calculated with the help of simple mathematical formulas but for non-regular shapes we have to use advanced mathematics (calculus) and boundary conditions.
Let suppose you have a cube of concrete. Inner Length=10meters , Inside width=10meter and height=10meter
The Volume of the cube= Length x width x height
In this case =10 x 10x 10 =1000Cubic meter
If the cube is full of liquid then we can say that the cube has a storage capacity of =1000cubic meter of that liquid.
