Hello , i have a border terrier who is now 4 months old , what i tend to do in the evening is to give her some dry biscuits and put some boiling water in, make sure the water has cooled down properly so that the dog can eat it , otherwise he/she will be very weary about going back to it if it is too hot.
In the morning, i just give her some wet food and leave it for the day , until she isn't hungry she wont go back for more. Make sure you dont keep topping up the food as she will gain weight and this is bad as when they get older.
