When tidal forces of the Moon and the Sun acts on the ocean, ocean surface on the Earth rises and falls in cyclic motion. This rising and falling of Earth's ocean surface is called a "Tide". Tides are responsible for the generation of Tidal Streams. Tidal Streams are produced as depth of the marine and estuarine water bodies are changed by the tide and when the depth changes it results in oscillating currents also known as Tidal Streams. Tides prediction is very important for the coastal navigation system. The important ecological product of ocean tides is a strip of seashore that is submerged at high tide and being exposed when tide is low.

Tide production at a specific location is also dependent upon the changing positions of the Moon and Sun relative to the Earth. Other factors that may have a effect on tide are the effects of Earth rotation and the local bathymetry. Coastal Tidal gauges are also used in measuring sea level. But sometimes these Tidal gauges may give incorrect reading if a wind is blowing very strongly. It's not necessary that tidal phenomena will occur in oceans only. It can happen in any system where a gravitational field varies with time and space.
