How Can You Apply For Unemployment Benefits?

Answer Question

6 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

To apply for or to file for unemployment benefits, all one has to do is simply file a claim in the unemployment office of the corresponding state. However, now one can even file for unemployment over the internet or through the phone. For instance, in the state of California, unemployed workers can file an unemployment insurance claim simply by filling out a form which is available over the internet. However, before filing a claim, I would suggest that you check up with your state unemployment regarding the best method to filing a claim.

The requirements needed to file an unemployment claim may differ in different states; however the few basic requirements are listed below:

    A complete mailing address
    A social security number
The number of one's driver's license
    Details of your last employer
Details regarding the compensation you received from your last job etc.

I've had a meeting with my managers, and they came to a decision that I needed to resign because of medical and personal reasons. I was grocery clerk (stock), that injured my back, but my back seemed to never heeled to normal, so I missed alot of days from work. I worked for the company for 3 and a half years. Now, I'm back on the job hunt and
it's really getting hard. My ending pay was $11.00/hr. I need some kind of assistance if possible for me, and if so it would really help me and my family out so much, while I'm still looking for new employment opportunities. Thanks for listening to me signing our James Caldwell. 10/31/2007

I was hired as a server for second shift and was trained 2 1/2 months before put on the floor. I was asked to fill in on 3rd shift til they filled the position. After 3 months i found out they weren't looking for anyone. So i put in a notice that no longer could work the shift. i was working 40 hours weekly at 6.50 an hour plus tips and then put on second shift they took me down to no more than 15 hours a week at 6.50 an hour washing dishes. when in the meeting with management i told them that i didn't think it was right that i worked so hard and long training for the position, that because i could no longer work a shift i wasn't hired for they put me washing dishes and cut down my hours so drasticly. i was then told that i wasn't their job to accommodate to my needs they had a business to run. i told them that it wasn't my job requirement when hired to fill in on a shift to help them out, and i did it cause i could at the time, and that also had a family to raise. That's when i was told it wasn't their problem and to clock out and go home. i was employed there from June 5 2007 until December 1 2007.i am currently a single mom of 3 kids 7 and under and looking for employment but haven't had any luck. I just thought id see if it i qualify for unemployment until i can get a job. thank you for your time.
